Job Description:
The GIS Specialist will support the spatial analysis components of the agrifood systems assessment by: developing, managing, and analyzing geospatial data to map agrifood system disruption, stakeholder distribution, and recovery-relevant spatial patterns, in alignment with the analytical framework defined by the Lead Researcher.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage geospatial datasets related to land use, irrigation and water infrastructure, markets, administrative boundaries, stakeholder locations, and available FAO GIS products.
- Develop baseline spatial layers and maps representing agrifood system characteristics, production zones, stakeholder distribution, and key value chain infrastructure across the OPT.
- Produce spatial analysis and mapping outputs illustrating agrifood system disruptions, including damage to productive assets, irrigation systems, market access constraints, and geographic patterns of impact and recovery potential.
- Support stakeholder and value chain mapping by visualizing formal and informal agrifood networks, production and market nodes, and geographic distribution of key actors across the agrifood system.
- Integrate GIS analysis with qualitative research findings, including geo-referenced KIIs and FGDs, and produce high-quality, policy-relevant maps and geospatial datasets in line with FAO standards and the analytical framework defined by the Lead Researcher.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Education
Degree in GIS, geography or related field
- Professional Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in GIS and spatial analysis
- Proven experience with:
- mapping for agriculture, food security, or development projects
- working with international organizations (e.g., FAO, UN agencies, NGOs)
- integrating GIS with qualitative or survey dat
- GIS software
- spatial data analysis and visualization
