Job Purpose
The Hygiene Promotion Officer will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of hygiene promotion activities within displacement sites to improve hygiene practices, reduce public health risks, and promote safe and healthy living conditions among displaced communities. The position will work closely with site management teams, community protection committees, and WASH actors to identify hygiene-related needs, deliver awareness activities, and encourage community participation in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement hygiene promotion activities in displacement sites based on identified needs and project objectives.
- Conduct hygiene awareness sessions covering key topics such as personal hygiene, safe water handling, sanitation practices, waste management, and disease prevention.
- Coordinate with community protection committees to facilitate community participation and promote positive hygiene behaviors.
- Conduct regular field visits to identify hygiene-related challenges, monitor practices, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Support the dissemination of hygiene messages through community meetings, information materials, and awareness campaigns.
- Monitor the condition and use of sanitation facilities, water points, hygiene facilities, and other WASH-related services within managed sites.
- Collect community feedback regarding hygiene and WASH services and refer identified issues to relevant teams and service providers.
- Support the implementation and follow-up of complaints and feedback mechanisms related to hygiene and WASH concerns.
- Promote inclusive hygiene awareness approaches that consider the needs of women, children, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities.
- Maintain accurate records of hygiene promotion activities, attendance lists, monitoring findings, and community feedback.
- Prepare regular activity reports and contribute to project monitoring and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Water and Environmental Engineering, Nursing, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in hygiene promotion, WASH programming, community mobilization, or humanitarian response.
- Previous experience working with displaced communities and implementing hygiene awareness activities in emergency contexts.
- Experience coordinating with community committees and humanitarian partners.
- Good understanding of WASH standards, hygiene promotion approaches, and accountability to affected populations (AAP).
Skills and Competencies
- Strong facilitation and communication skills.
- Ability to deliver effective awareness sessions for diverse community groups.
- Good understanding of community engagement and behavior change approaches.
- Strong field coordination and reporting skills.
- Ability to work in challenging and rapidly changing humanitarian environments.
- Good command of Arabic and English.
